We've found the "Midwest" ... sort of!

After just under a week of polling, I've managed to gather quite a few interpretations regarding where the "midwest" is located. Though I received many very helpful thoughts, the glib and satirical comments are also appreciated. Thank you to everybody that issued responses!! Please feel free to still state your opinion and I will update the map accordingly ...

W/o further ado, this is the general location of the "midwest", where darkest blue is the "heart" and lightest blue is the fringe:

The etymology of the term "midwest" is:

1926, in U.S. geographical sense, from earlier Midwestern (1889) in ref. to a group of states originally listed as W.Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, and Arkansas.
